Israel and the Church are the same covenant people – even though we should say that the church is improved by the New (renewed) Covenant.
One Covenant:
It is necessarily the covenant with Abraham – Gen 12 promises “blessing to all the families of the earth” through Abraham. If the Gentiles are getting blessed, it is through the Gen 12 covenant with Abraham.
Paul insists on this in Galatians 3, by saying that the Spirit comes to the church in order to fulfill that exact promise.
13Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— 14so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith. (Gal 3.13-14, ESV)
One Covenant People
Paul tells us both that the Gentile believer today is
-considered as faithful to the law and heart circumcision (Rom 2.25-29)
-added to the same “Olive Tree/Vine” as the Jews – which he calls “Jacob” (Rom 11).
There are other differences – A Change of Priesthood, and therefore a Change of Law (Heb 7, Ac 10, Ac 15).
Thanks for the comment, it will help me look at my work in the future.
Nice film. Clear and well argued.
One thing: Israel= O.T.; Church = N.T.?
I thought this could use a little sharpening.
…perhaps this is knit picking!
Thanks Simeon,
I would probably sharpen this way:
